An Economic Study of Al-Zlaf Sand and Its Potential for Spatial Development in Southern Libya

Abstract

Zlaf sand is one of Libya’s most important mineral resources that has not been fully exploited. It is located in the southern region, where vast areas of sand with high silica purity extend. These sands are distinguished by their chemical and physical composition, which makes them suitable for many modern industries, placing them among the strategic raw materials necessary for diversifying the Libyan economy and reducing dependence on oil.

Geological studies indicate that Zlaf sand constitutes a massive resource capable of supporting the mining sector and manufacturing industries for many years to come. Furthermore, its presence in the south offers the region a genuine opportunity to establish industrial projects and infrastructure that support spatial development and provide extensive job opportunities.
