Examining the extent of technology integration in ELT education at the faculty of education in Tripoli University.

This study was dedicated to examine the EFL students’ and academic language instructors’ perceptions about the integration, importance and the extent to which technology is used in ELT at the faculty of Education in Tripoli University. This study also aimed to identify the main factors affecting the integration of technology in ELT education based on the language instructors’ perceptions. The study was quantitative in nature and the data were collected through questionnaires. The participants of the research were 40 seventh and eighth semester language students, as well as 20 academic ELT instructors at the faculty of Education in Tripoli University. Results revealed the ELT teachers did not use technology in ELT education on a regular basis. On the contrary, the results found that language students perceived the importance of technology in ELT education at an Important level. Based on the research results, the ELT teachers demonstrated a negative attitude towards technology integration in language teaching but highlighted some factors such as Lack of technology infrastructure requirements. Finally, the findings of the study provided a guideline representation of the current state of technology in ELT education programs. This baseline should trigger future researchers to investigate such variables in the light of technology integration ELT education. Therefore, it is suggested that the findings of this study can be used as a guideline to further encourage ELT training & educational programs to integrate technological applications among academic educators in their ELT education respectively.
